While we are building our own camper we need to plan for and put in mounting blocks for all sorts of Electrical Devices. The Electrical devices make our Camper a lot more functional and easy to use.

One of the biggest groups of Electrical Devices is lighting. We will need to install lights on the outside of the camper that are run by the base towing or hauling vehicle. At a minimum we will need Clearance Lights, Signal Lights, Backup Lights, License Plate light and Brake Lights.

In addition to the running lights on the Camper we will want a Porch Light. And in some cases we will want lights in our storage compartments.

Inside the camper we will want lights for our usual activities so in most cases we will want lights over our cooking area, lights over out eating area, and lights over our sleeping area.

Most lights are now LED so they draw very little current from your batteries so there is no reason to not have lights wherever you want them. Just keep in mind that wherever you want a light, you will need a wire. And you will need a switch to turn the lights off and on.

In addition to lights, you will want to think about fans in your vents, range hood fan above your stove, water pumps, furnace, as well as CO detectors and Propane detectors.

All of these devices need to be connected to a power distribution panel with breakers or fuses.

Modern Campers also come equipped with Solar Panels, Solar Controllers, Batteries, Battery Chargers, and connections for Shore Power.

Don’t forget we also need to have power for TV’s, radio, and chargers for our devices.
